Useful information

How can one get to Zalău?

  • The city of Zalău is located on the European road E 81. The access from Cluj Napoca (85 km away) - click here; and Satu Mare (89 km away) - click here; is available on E81. The road was rehabilitated in 2001 and is in a very good condition.
  • The shortest way to Zalău on coming from Oradea is on European road E 60 up to Aleşd and from this point on national road DN 1H (116 km). There is also a longer alternative. One can take E 60 up to Ciucea and from this point to Zalău on DJ 108A, passing through Vânători, Cizer, Horoatu  Crasnei, Crasna, Aghireş. This variant from Oradea to Zalău is 138 km length - see routing no.1; see routing no.2
  • It is 88 km to drive from Baia Mare to Zalău mainly on county roads. - see routing
  • The above mentioned cities have airport with national and international flights.
  • It is worth mentioning that there are also regular means of transport that can help one reaching Zalău

How can one get to the archeological site Porolissum?

  • Once one gets to Zalău, he/she has two options to reach Porolissum: on asphalt for 13 km or 10 km through woods.
  • In the first case one can follow the route: M. Viteazu Blvd. - T. Vladimirescu St. -Porolissum St. - Bujorilor St. - Moigradului St. - Cetății S.t ( the boundary of Zalău); from that point one takes the DJ 191 C road up to the crossroads that leads to Moigrad (right side, signaled with a touristic panel). From there, Castrului St. leads to the archeological site.
  • If one does not enjoy a transport mean nor he/she wishes to try a wood adventure, he/she can take the bus 11 that will get to the boundary of Zalău and from that point one can walk for the next 6 km.
  • In the second case, wheatear on foot or by bicycle, one can start off on the red cross mark trail through the woods. After exiting the forest, cross the road DN 1 F/E 81 and go forward on the left side up to the entrance of the next forest. Here she/he can go on the red cross marked trail until she/he reaches the red stripe marked trail on the crest (that appears after passing by Meseş hut) then turn left. The red stripe trail leads to the exit of the forest. From there one will pass through a meadow on North-North East, on a carriage trail. The landmarks are Moigrad steep hill and a stone quarry - see tourist map.

 

Public transportation - In Zalău the public transportation is assured by buses. The ticket price is 4 RON / two journeys. The tickets can be bought from the booths located in the bus stations, often from the news stall or some shops with specific signs.
